The pandemic has changed a lot of things. Some of us enjoyed working from home and binge-watching our favorite shows was appealing.
However, parents with children on the autism spectrum could not look at lockdown and quarantine as bonus time with family. Lack of consistent routine, no in-person specialty schools, and virtual therapy has left the burden on mom and dad to try to make up the difference. The normal struggle just got tougher. That is why the Autism Society of Mahoning Valley has been more active than ever!
In addition to much-needed information & referral information & referral, we converted all of our monthly age-specific family programmings to online offerings. We even did our summer camp in a safe fashion with a mix of online and socially distant outdoor gatherings! This spring we are moving forward with plans to add a much-needed social group for teens and adults.
We didn’t let the pandemic stop us, but a lack of community support can.
For this reason, we hope that you will consider sponsoring our singular annual fundraiser. On June 5, 2021, ASMV will be bringing WARRIOR 2021 to the Canfield Fairgrounds. This unique event features a Ninja Warrior Course, People-Powered Tractor Pull, Strongman Challenge, our annual 5K Run as well as 1-Mile Autism Community Walk + the largest Special Needs Resource Fair in the region.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control states that one in 59 children is affected by autism. From the newly diagnosed child to the school-aged children to the severely disabled autistic adult — these more than 6,000 individuals in Mahoning, Trumbull + Columbianana counties are all our families.
We are the only local nonprofit that can say that and we need your support. Our organization works to improve the quality of life for families living with an ASD diagnosis in any way we can. Quality programming like ours costs upward of $75,000/year.
Please consider recommending that your company becomes one of the corporate underwriters that make these programs happen. Any funds raised by this event stay local and support our families. Sponsorship details for WARRIOR 2021 are available. If you would like to contribute in a way not listed, please let us know.
